Warped Tour 2012 Merch

I went to Warped Tour in San Diego this year (just as I did last year). It was a blast. I saw a handful of good bands that played great sets. Some bands I was seeing for a second or third time, others I had never seen. I’d seen Every Time I Die, and The Ghost Inside before but they impressed nonetheless. But before that day I’d never seen Title Fight, Four Year Strong, Polar Bear Club, or Fireworks live. TF, FYS, and PBC were all great but Fireworks’ live show impressed and made me even more of a fan. This was kind of the case with ETID as well. I’ve seen them 2 times prior to this show, but wasn’t really a fan before. Well since developing a liking (maybe a love?) for their music this set was awesome.

Anyways…

I bought three shirts to commemorate the day. I got one from ETID (the grey shirt with the blue & yellow lettering), and I got two from Jordan Buckley Worldwide. JBWW being a clothing company started by ETID guitarist Jordan Buckley (no way?!) who draws all the designs. The two JBWW shirts are the blue tie dye, and the brown (obviously). I love the shirts and I love supporting bands and companies that I respect and admire. It doesn’t hurt that we spoke to Jordan for a bit and he’s a super cool dude with awesome talent.

I also got Kt a Fireworks tanktop. I really wanted one for myself, but she didn’t get to make it to the show so I wanted to get her something so she wasn’t 100% left out. And she loves Fireworks just as much as me so it was appropriate.

I also got some stuff that isn’t pictured. I picked up Defeater’s first album Travels from the Bridge 9 tent. And I got Fireworks’ album Gospel on vinyl as well as their Bonfires EP.

It was a good trip with good friends and good music. I was also lucky enough to pick up some cool merch along the way.

Lyrics I Did (Not) Write

“Whenever something goes right, something goes wrong. And it’s been this way too long!”

Co-sign. I feel this at least once a day, and some days even more. This song captures that feeling perfectly. But I feel like a super-noob because I can’t remember the name of the song. I could look it up on my iPod, but I don’t want to.

Have a good day.

Lyrics I Did (Not) Write

Fireworks’ song “Life Is Killing Me” from their album Gospel has some lyrics I can definitely relate with:

“My heart feels young, my body feels old,
my mind just feels like it’s trying to please them both.”

I feel this everyday when I have to work instead of write. Or go to the bank instead of paint. Or apply for a job instead of make music. The lower back pains, headaches, and sore bones don’t help either.

Well I guess this is growing up. I’m trying to find a balance. (lyrics from other songs I wish I’d wrote)

My favorite albums right now. I’m listening to a bunch of different stuff, but these stay in pretty heavy rotation. Whether it’s on the iPod or in someone’s vehicle I try to keep these handy. Good stuff.

- Mos Def - The Ecstatic
- Fireworks - Gospel
- Title Fight - Shed (The Last Thing You Forget is up there too, but I don’t have a physical copy)
- Gorillaz - The Fall
- Balance and Composure - Separation (I hate to have to choose a favorite, but this album is so good. I play this almost twice a day, and it gets put on repeat when I’m going to bed.)
- City And Coulour - Little Hell
- Beastie Boys - Hot Sauce Committee Part Two

Enjoy the pics. I’ve taken some more, so stay tuned.

Fireworks & The Wonder Years

I love both of their new albums. Fireworks’ latest being Gospel, and The Wonder Years recently (today) released Suburbia I’ve Given You All And Now I’m Nothing. While TWY may be winning the award for longest album name I actually prefer Fireworks’ album a bit more. They’re both great pop/punk albums, there’s no arguing that. But my personal preference has me leaning more in favor of the boys from Detroit.

You should pick up both albums A) to support great bands that make great music and B) to let your ears have fun.

That is all,

Zach

P.S. While on the topic of pop/punk, Handguns’ Don’t Bite Your Tongue EP is good as well. It’s only seven songs, and it’s not as polished as the above mentioned albums. But it is definitely worth numerous listens and a shoutout, and not just because I follow Handguns on tumblr (and vice versa). Peace.

Music Is So Good

Wow.

 Right now I am loving:

Balance and Composure
Title Fight
Fireworks
Beastie Boys &
Hail Mary Mallon

Look up anything by the artists/bands listed above and you’ll be satisfied. Word.

Love & Melodies,

Zach
