AJKO - UNC
I’ve never owned a pair of high top Jordan 1s, but the silhouette has always been one of my favorites. The height and slim look give off a vintage feel, but the design is timeless. I like how the design almost seems based off of boxing shoes, and supposedly that’s the theme with the AJKOs. Supposedly the “KO” stands for Knock Out, a boxing reference made alluding to the fact that the shoes have a canvas upper - and boxing rings are usually made out of canvas (or at least, they were back in the day). The Air Jordan 1 is one of Nike and Jordan Brand’s most popular shoes. It even inspired the look of another Nike mainstay, the Nike Dunk. Interestingly enough, the Jordan 1 was also a popular skate shoe in the 80s. Look back to old pics of the Bones Brigade or other skaters from that era and you’ll see a bunch of basketball shoes being skated in. The Air Jordan 1 was a popular substitute for skate kicks. That adds a bit of appeal for me (not that I would skate these, haha).
The AJKO is sought after A. ‘cos it’s a Jordan 1, and B. ‘cos its canvas upper keeps the creasing to a minimum and therefore makes it more appealing to sneakerheads who like to kick their kicks pristine.
I want this pair ‘cos I’ve heard the AJKOs are comfortable, and more importantly it’s in a UNC color scheme. Only sad news here though is that they’ll be released as part of a two shoe pack. And, of course, I’m not interested in the other pair - another AJKO, but in Georgetown Hoyas colors (fuck that).
There’s no release date yet, but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.
