Who wants to buy this for me?

This is the deluxe edition of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy that will only be released in the UK. It costs 49.99 (in GBP) and with shipping it comes out to about $75 USD. I loved the book (even though it was one of the toughest reads I’ve ever encountered) but I didn’t get to see the film. And truthfully I’m really not asking for this (unless Katie sees this, haha) but just nerding out over the cool stuff it comes with.

Damn our weak ass American dollar.

TDKR Trailers

So in the last week I saw both the 6min. prologue and the new theatrical trailer for Batman The Dark Knight Rises, and to say I’m excited for this movie would be an understatement.

The Prologue:
I saw the 6min. prologue with the Demise Of Hollywood gang when we went up to Phoenix for a show they were playing. It only played in 100 theatres worldwide so I’m glad we got to catch it. (It’s on the internet now, but quality will obviously not be the same) I won’t go into too much detail, but the prologue is all Bane. Much like Inception, once Tom Hardy is on the screen you can’t take your eyes off him. Now whether this is due to the creepy as hell mask he is wearing, or his awesome acting is debatable but I’m sure both aspects contribute. The scene is approximately 5min. long but has a bigger action sequence than the climax of most action movies. After the Bane intro scene you get some snippets of other characters: Batman, Catwoman, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Commissioner Gordon, and the Arkham escapees. I almost wish I hadn’t seen it because now I just want the movie to come out even more.

The Trailer:
I saw the new theatrical trailer last night before the new Sherlock Holmes (which was good). And as if the prologue didn’t have me stoked enough, the trailer was the icing on the cake of excitement. More Bane, more fighting, more action, flying vehicles, and an imploding football field (and a cameo from Hines Ward). Yeah. Imploding. Football field. Afterwards Selina Kyle (Catwoman) warns Bruce Wayne about an ensuing battle that Gotham won’t be able to handle. It was a more traditional trailer but just as grand as the prologue. Seeing Sherlock Holmes was cool, but the trailer made it better.

I. Can’t. Wait.

Bane

The cover of the new Empire Magazine (subscriber’s only cover) with a new image and some new details about The Dark Knight Rises.

Tom Hardy looks like he’s in straight up beast mode.

I can’t wait to see this!

The Dark Knight Rises - Bane (Tom Hardy)

I know this is everywhere, but Tom Hardy is such a legit actor. He’s definitely one of my favorites, and from his IMDB page he seems like a legit dude. I can’t wait for this movie.

Warrior

Last night I saw Warrior with my lady, my brother and his lady, and our friend James. Warrior is the story of two brothers from a broken home who are battling personal demons, life struggles, and their past. They use MMA to try and solve their problems. Tom Hardy (Bronson, Inception) plays the younger brother who is a former Marine who just returned from war. Joel Edgerton plays his older brother, a teacher who is struggling to keep a house over his family’s head. The two brothers find out about an MMA tournament with a grand prize of $5,000,000 and decide to train to participate.

As the movie develops we see into the personal conflicts each man is dealing with more and more. Tommy (Hardy) is haunted by his participation in the war in the Middle East, and Brendan (Edgerton) is having trouble taking care of his family after losing his job temporarily. And on top of that both men have issues with their father who was an abusive alcoholic, but is now a born-again Catholic. As their father (Nick Nolte) tries to rebuild their trust, and his family, the boys have trouble putting their love and faith back in the man who ruined their younger lives.

The movie was really good. Tom Hardy is one of my favorite actors and he doesn’t really play the character I felt he was going to. He’s reeling from the action in the Middle East, and he has a dark aura because of it. He’s feeling angry, guilty, and he’s an asshole for most of the film. I’ve never seen Joel Edgerton in anything before but he played his part very well also. Brendan was the perfect balance to Tommy’s brooding angst with his kind heart. He loves his family, and wants to take care of them, and does so by fighting in parking lot MMA matches until he gets a shot in the big tournament. The only thing the brother’s share is a deep-rooted hatred for their father. Brendan’s a little more open to his father’s new choices while Tommy verbally abuses him any chance he gets.

The film was full of powerful moments. The fights were awesome. You feel every punch and cringe at every slam. The dialogue, cinematography, action, and story all come through and make you feel it. It’s a heartbreaking and heartwarming story in one.

If you like good movies then you should go see this.

Peace,
Zach
